A crown is a custom-made cap placed over a weakened or damaged tooth. We recommend a crown when a regular filling is no longer sufficient, for example after a large fracture, after a root canal treatment or with advanced wear. The crown restores both the chewing function and the appearance of the tooth.
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring onto the adjacent teeth. For a single gap between two healthy teeth, a bridge is often a fast and stable solution. For longer-term, jaw-friendly results we often choose an implant-supported bridge, the implants act as artificial roots and protect the neighbouring teeth.
We work almost exclusively with porcelain crowns and bridges. Porcelain reflects light similarly to natural enamel, making the restoration nearly indistinguishable from your own teeth. For the most precise fit we use a digital intraoral scan, so traditional putty impressions are usually unnecessary.
Treatment takes two to three appointments. In the first appointment we prepare the tooth and take the scan; a temporary crown or bridge bridges the gap until the next visit. In the second appointment we fit and cement the final restoration. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, a porcelain crown or bridge typically lasts many years.
